Island Adventure at OBS, Pulau Ubin, Singapore YOG 2010

LONG POST! =)
(18th-22nd August)

I finally have time to update my bloggy.
Have so so much to write about the YOG but I really lack of time to do so.
People who are also involved in YOG would understand. Especially my fellow Island Adventure (IAD) peeps.
Wake up at 5am everyday to report at YOV by 7am, & end work at 8pm, went around visiting the booths and reach home by 11plus pm. Slept around 1am, and the cycle repeats.

18th
1st day of Island Adventure!!
I was the even-days batch so I was part of the 1st batch of faciliators to carry out the program.
Gathered at YOV by 7am together with Joel, Nerissa, Clyde, Aida, Denise, Faheezah and Nurul to meet Cyril and Melvin to have a briefing on what we need to do later on. Had breakfast at the Dining Hall at 7.30-8.10am and gathered at the Pre-Planned Transport Mall to prepare for the arrival of the athletes.

By the way, I had a surprise in the morning as the YOG committee actually gave me a Lyo plushie as a Birthday present (I switched it to Merly later on coz the plushie was cuter.)

=D

So anyway, I pinned the "Happy Birthday" badge to my left sleeve and when the Czech Republic official saw that, he sang a happy birthday song while tugging my sleeve (lols?) and then gave me this saying that it was to be my birthday present. Haha so nice.. My very 1st official pin! :D

Czech Junior Team! :)

Boarded the bus with 2 watches (aka groups) and proceeded to Punggol Point to catch a boat to OBS Pulau Ubin. Had a chance to experience what it was like being a tour guide as I had to introduce sights on the way (HTA, Singapore Sports School etc.)

Took a boat to OBS after reaching Punggol and we finally arrived at our second home! =D
The athletes were handed over to the OBS instructors and we (the facilitators), went to report at the Ops room to double check their attendance and some admin work. Also met the Asst.Ops, Kelvin, Rafiudin, and Austin. And, our in charge, Izan, and Bok.

Had our lunch at 11+am at the Dining Hall before proceeding to the Multi-Purpose Hall to issue the athletes their lunches. They had some fruit tasting corner in the hall and we went to talk to the athletes while introducing the fruits that seem foreign to them. There were, dragonfruits, longans, mangos, rose apple, guava, and of course, the Durians! My favourite request is to get them to try the durians and see their expressions change. Hahaha...Most of them disliked it, but for those who do like it, took a lot to eat.

We all went back to the Ops room to chill, and rest. That's when Aida and I opened up the room opposite the Ops room and played/sleep there. Kelvin, Fudin, and Nerissa joined later on. Hahaha...played with the puzzles, cards, plastic balls, learning how to do the "Freeze" in Breakdance, and drew our cartoons on the whiteboard there.
I drew my usual horse-like cartoon there and napped on the cupboard with Aida for 5 mins. Woke up to find my cartoon edited by Kelvin. -.-"

Original

Edited by Kelvin .... -.-ll

Went down at 4+pm to distribute the athletes' snack pack to them and to wait for them to finish up their activities before heading back to YOV again.

Said goodbyes, exchanged e-mails, gave phone numbers, took photos, and the Facis head for our dinner while the athletes went for theirs.
Went around the booths in the village square to play their games and collect gifts before heading home everyday at YOV.

20th
Rested on the 19th because my duties are only on the even numbered days.

Went for the second day of Island Adventure and this was my favourite duty out of the four times that I went for it as I got to really made new friends! =D
Took the 1st and 5th watch that consists of the Australia team and the France team.

Talked to some of the Australian athletes during the bus ride but got really carsick halfway, still persisted to distract myself, and was really REALLY relieved when we reached and got out of the bus. =D

Finaly felt a little better, but then came impending doom when we were walking to the jetty. THE JETTY!! Omg...seasickness now. Bleahs...(almost literally. but thank god for Ipod.)
Got on the Island and went about doing our stuff when we got to know that Yuka SATO was on the Island. She's the 1st athlete to win a Gold medal in YOG in a triathlon.

So we all went to try and get a photo taken with her.
And some of us were successful!! There was this another guy with her called Yuki.
So cute, looks around 15 yrs old with bumpy cheeks. Haha...so cute..wonder if he's her younger brother.
Also took some group photos with some guys from the France team while they wait to do their Inverse Tower activities.

Yuka and Yuki =D

Yuka SATO!

With the French guys.

One of the french guy trying to push us over to one side, and us resisting that push.
Hahaha..

Took a picture with this Russian guy whom Aida think was cute. Haha...though he looks cuter in person than in the photo.

And here's Boris! The 1st Australian friend I made during the YOG. And his event is Badminton!
He doesn't look like an Australian. Haha...small Japanese eyes :D

The day before, JW and I watched the Taekwando match between Russia and Mexico. And the mexican girl won the match.
While on the way back to Punggol Point, I saw her in the boat! Was wondering how come the girl looks so familiar when I realised that I saw her on TV the day before, so, *snap!* *grins*

Hee ;D

And finally, was talking to Nerissa while waiting for the athletes to board the bus to return back to YOV when a Swiss athlete standing beside the both of us tapped on my head and commented "You're so short! Just like a kid! *grins* "
Me : -.-"

Still, he was pretty funny and cute so I decided to get a photo as part of the YOG memories.

I'm standing on tip-toes.

Alright, that's basically it on the Island for that day. We returned, had dinner in the dining hall, played games in the booths again, and took the shuttle bus, and train-ed home! =D

22nd
Same routine went on and the only difference was when we met the new batch of athletes for the day and the time spent on Ubin.
